Article I
Section A:
The organization's official name is She Speaks
Section B:
T his organization's mission is to gather the student body in recognition of female contributions and achievements; to bring awareness of gender inequality faced in our nation and world; to explore and share female experiences via diverse cultural paths; to advocate for all women locally and globally. We are dedicated to promoting equality, equity, diversity, inclusion, and the impeccable power and voice one has when she speaks.
Article II - Membership Privileges
Section 1 :
Active members within this club have the privilege to hold an office or chair position and are also allowed to hold voting rights.
Section 2 :
Affiliate members are able to vote, serve on committees but may not hold office.
Section 3 :
Alumni members may not vote or hold office but are permitted to serve on committees.
Section 4:
Active and alumni members have the privilege of accessing and using any of She Speaks' social media outlets. This includes but is not limited to: the club website, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, and any other social media tools the club utilizes. Registration (sign-up) is required, guidelines for use of these tools will be adhered to by all members and associates or this privilege may be revoked. Alumni and club associates do not have the privilege of voting in any club polls unless otherwise stated on social media tools.
Section A: Officers –
The officers shall be a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, SGA Representative, and Alternate Position.
Section B: Eligibility –
Officers must be full time or part time students attending Atlantic Cape Community College, Atlantic City, and Cape May Campus(es).
Section C: Election –
The officers shall be elected by ballot at the last meeting of the spring semester by a majority of the vote cast for that office.
Five members and the organization adviser must be present during the voting process.
At least five active members must vote towards the new nominees running for office.
The president cannot vote for officers.
If a member who holds an office position is planning to graduate during a semester other than the Spring, at the end of the office members semester, five or more office members along with the organization advisor present, will vote in a new nominee for that position.
Section D: Term –
The officers shall serve for one year and their term of office shall begin at the launch of the fall semester.
Section E: Vacancy –
If a vacancy occurs in the office of President or if the President is vetoed out, the Vice-President shall assume the office for the remainder of the term and vacancies in any other office shall be filled by a special election.
Article III - Officer Responsibilities
Section A: President
– it shall be the duty of the President to:
Conduct the meetings
Vote only in case of a tie
Represent the club
Appoint committee chairpersons subject to the approval of the Executive Committee
Perform such other duties as ordinarily pertain to this office
Keep a file of who is an active officer and who is an affiliated member within the club
supervising and delegating duties for events and activities, assisting as and when needed.
Section B: Vice-President
– It shall be the duty of the Vice-President to:
Preside in the absence of the President
Serve as chairperson of the Program Committee
Assist president during events
Keep track of other officers and assure each one is on track and fairly participating
Event and activity planning, assisting when and as needed.
Section C: Secretary
– It shall be the duty of the Secretary to:
Record the minutes of all meetings
Keep a file of the club’s records
Issue reminder notices of meetings and conduct the general correspondence of the club
-post Minutes and club records on the website in the "From the Leadership" discussion thread on the website weekly.
-Manage and post (as appropriate) on all social media tools (club website, Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, etc.) used by the club, any upcoming events and activities.
-assist in event and activity preparations as needed.
-Ensure event request forms are obtained, filled out, signed, and given to the SGA Representative.
Section D: Treasurer
– It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to:
Receive all funds and process Request for Payment, Deposit Slip, and Officer Signature Forms
Keep an itemized account of all receipts and expenditures and make
-post all notices/information regarding club Treasury in the "Treasurer's Report" on the website discussion forum (under "From the Leadership") as needed.
-ensure all requests for events requesting money are properly filled out and given to the Secretary and SGA Representative.
-assist in event and activity preparations as needed.
Section E - SGA Representative
- It will be the SGA Representatives duty to:
Attend the Student Government Association's meetings every Thursday from 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
Keep track of what is being discussed and bring up suggestions, alterations, or opportunities for the club during meetings.
-be the voice of the club at SGA Senate meetings, informing the Senate of club events and opportunities.
-ensure SGA officers receive the proper, completed request forms for events and funds.
-act as an intermediary with other SGA Reps on behalf of the club for special events and activities as needed.
-Post news and information from the Senate meetings on the website (in "From the Leadership" discussion forum) weekly.
-assist in the preparation of events and activities as needed.
Section F - Alternate
Be up to date with all positions and club activities to be able to switch into any position of the club, if need be at anytime.
Be in constant communication with club officers and with all club members.
-Assist as needed with events and activities.
Article IV: Meetings
Section A: Meetings –
Regular meetings shall be held monthly during the regular school year
Meetings will be held two-four times a month on either Tuesdays from 1230-130
Section B: Special Meeting –
Special meetings may be called by the President.
Section C:
If an office member cannot make a meeting please tell the President or Vice President in advanced so there can be notes taken and given to the missing officer.
Section D:
If more than three meetings in a row are missed by any officer of this club, you will receive a membership warning. If this continues to happen, one’s absence result in a vote to release him or her from the position.
Section E:
It is the responsibility of all members to sign-up at the club website: (https://shespeaksclub.wixsite.com/shespeaksaccc) and check it regularly for updates, announcements, and to participate in relevant group discussions as needed.
Article V: Amendments
Section A: Selection
– these bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of the chapter membership
Section B: Notice
– All members shall receive advance notice of the proposed amendment at least five days before the meeting. (The time may be extended to the following meeting.)
